Being a Deaconess

WHO WE ARE:
The Deaconess Ministry is characterized by its bond of Christian love and hospitality. The work of the Deaconess Ministry is mandated by the Pastor, Church and guided by the Holy Spirit. All is done with great care to insure that will contribute to Christ’s kingdom building process.  The Deaconess Ministry is composed of the following officers: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer with other officers added as deemed necessary.  Deaconess elects officers annually; hold regular monthly meetings with call meetings as necessary; and submit written and verbal report to the Church at the regular business meeting.

FAITHFUL SERVICE:
At Mount Tabor Baptist Church, the Deaconess Ministry continues the biblical tradition of faithful service with all glory and honor to God. As a part of the spiritual lay leaders of the church of Christ, the body of the redeemed, we are responsible to provide the energy to overcome the apathy of the church and to provide the leadership needed to fulfill our purpose in life.Each day is an opportunity to show our obedience and reverenced to God. We are thankful for God’s grace and mercy.

DEACONESS QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualifications for the Deaconess are given in 1 Timothy- 3:8-13.
Deaconess demonstrates the following:
Her conversation and communication will beneficially impress those for whom she labors.
She is a living sacrifice, a Christian teacher and a radiant light.
One of good rapport Christian likeness and have the love of God for others. 
Must be grave, not slanderous, sober and faithful in all things; a woman who have followed every good work.
Roman 12: 1-2 - I Beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God,  that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

DEACONESS RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Deaconess Ministry is responsible for the following:
Assist the Pastor in developing the spiritual life of the members of the Church for the best possible Christian service.
Is obedient to the Pastor and attentive to the needs of the Church.
Prepare Communion Ordinance.
To prepare female candidates for baptismal service.
To provide outreach to sick and shut–in individuals.
To provide outreach to the community.
A role model for other Christian women and is a living example for the unsaved.
Gladly render assistance to those who are grief stricken due to the passing of a family member.
Strive to maintain a Christian home, is a beacon of light and hope in our home, community and Church.
Assist in training young women for Christian service.
Beautifies the Church as well as her home.
