Deacon Ministry

Who We Are
Mount Tabor is blessed to have energetic and enthusiastic Deacons who provide care and support, promote fellowship, offer prayer and serve their church in many other ways. Deacons are men and women who have been elected by the congregation and ordained to provide service and a helping hand to the church. The word “Deacon” is taken from Scripture and literally means “to serve” or “to minister.” They are only a phone call away. The Deacons thank you for your ongoing prayer and support of their ministry.

Faithful Service Celebration of Life
We provide comfort to the family of the deceased and assist with their need during the funeral/memorial service.

Communications
The Deacons utilize the Monthly Information Sheet, a Deacons’ Ministries brochure, and the MTBC website to communicate our Christian ministries of compassion and service.

Communion
The Deacons lovingly prepare the elements and table for Mount Tabor’s monthly and special Communion Services.  Serve the Communion Bread and Wine for all services.  Clean up after Communion and Arrange Homebound Communion.

Congregational Care & Homebound Visitation
Our Deacons maintain telephone contact with people in our church who are in difficult circumstances and could use words and prayers of encouragement. We serve people who are not able to leave their home through visits, prayer, phone calls, and cards.A Deacon usually accompanies and assists the pastor to serve communion to people who are homebound.

New Members Ministry
The Deacons support Mount Tabor’s newest members by coming alongside in the following ways.  Participate in New Members’ Class.  Support and encourage new members. Follow up and assimilate new members into the Mount Tabor Church Family.

Receptions
The Deacons provide light beverages and snacks for a variety of Mount Tabor functions including Easter breakfast, and memorial services
